GM Fire and Rescue Service | Bonfire and Halloween Safety Campaign
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service is one of the largest fire and rescue services in the UK. The service works to protect people, property and communities through prevention, protection and emergency response, as well as public education campaigns that help people stay safe at home and in public spaces.
Antisocial behaviour seasonal safety campaign
We worked with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) to deliver a bold, youth-focused safety campaign that raises awareness of the real consequences of antisocial behaviour around Halloween and Bonfire Night.
The campaign combined powerful illustration, clear messaging and targeted social assets to reach young people at exactly the moments when risk-taking behaviour is most likely.
Our creative approach
Following an initial internal briefing meeting, we decided to work collaboratively on a few visual options that would be appealing to a young audience. We began by developing several poster design concepts, exploring different styles and techniques from our designers. We then presented both photography-based and illustrated options to choose from.
The client engaged a group of young people to collaborate with us on the design development. They chose to pursue an illustrative direction, drawing inspiration from gaming design and the style of vintage game posters. The final concept uses strong shadows and a limited colour palette to create a bold, symbolic, and eye-catching visual that resonates with young people through its style and clear messaging.
The design also needed to be powerful enough to convey an important message, using big and bold typography to communicate the consequences at the heart of the campaign clearly. Parents were also an important audience, so the messaging was designed to be clear and accessible, avoiding jargon.
Results and impact
The campaign provided GMCA with a striking suite of materials that were well received by both young people and partner organisations. Feedback from youth groups showed that the visual style felt relevant, modern and engaging, helping the messages land more effectively. The assets were used across schools, youth services and social channels during the Halloween and Bonfire Night period, supporting ongoing efforts to reduce antisocial behaviour and raise awareness of risks to both individuals and communities.
Client feedback
“I met with a group of young people in Manchester yesterday and they were really impressed with the designs and loved seeing how their input had changed the initial design.”
