Becoming an EOT

Carbon Creative was incorporated in November 2002 and twenty years later it was officially transitioned into an Employee Owned Trust (EOT). Employees at Carbon Creative own the whole of the company. In practice, this means that 100% of the shares are held in benefit of all current and future Carbon Creative staff. Being an employee owned company means we have the independence to democratise our decisions, maintain our values and evolve our culture collectively as we grow.

EOT Benefits

Being an EOT creates numerous benefits for our colleagues.

Employee tax-free annual payments

One of the many benefits
for employees of a company
governed by an Employee
Ownership Trust is that they
can receive a tax-free annual
payment. The current allowance
on this benefit is £3,700 and
is often paid as a result of a
profit share calculation.

A voice in decision making

Employees have a greater
say in the running of the
company, if they choose to
do so. An EOT is structured
to encourage employees to
help the leadership team with
suggestions and guidance for
the benefit of all.

Leadership succession from the founders

Employees of the company
can have assurances of future
leadership succession.
By natural progression an EOT
allows employees to become
empowered by the founders
and elevated into more senior
leadership roles.

Profit share and rewards

An EOT structure directly
rewards employees for all their
hard work and contribution.
The more successful the
company becomes the greater
the rewards to employees,
typically distributed in company
benefits such as profit share.

Three pillars of employee ownership

Governance is the connection and communication between the main forums of the company to make sure the business can continue to work effectively and grow.

Our EO culture should encourage engagement, instil confidence to challenge and empower every single employee to focus on the bottom line… people, planet, prosperity.
